Kingswinford
Anglican: St Mary
St Mary’s is on the site of a medieval church, the lower stages of the tower are thought to be Norman and a 11th century tympanum from the original church is situated in the vestry where it was reset in the early 19th century. The upper stages of the tower are 15th century Perpendicular, the nave and aisles are 18th century. In 1831 the church was closed in favour of nearby Holy Trinity, Wordsley (some searches refer to Holy Trinity, Kingswinford) but was reopened in 1846 when much restoration was needed.
Kingswinford was historically in Staffordshire until transferred to the new Borough of Dudley in 1974. Similarly the ecclesiastical parish was in the Himley Deanery of the Diocese of Lichfield until transfer to become the new Kingswinford Deanery of the Diocese of Worcester in 1994.
